Devoted to Live

With our student ministry not having our weekly worship experience this week due to weather I thought I would start a blog. For everyone who knows me, they know that I’m not a writer but I’ll try my best. Lately I’ve found myself trying to communicate with everyone from every angle that I can. I have skpe now, twitter, and now I’m blogging. Pretty much I’ve been coming up with a lot of new passwords over the last few weeks.

My first blog is going to be explaining my blog’s title “Devoted to Live.” The word devoted is defined as committed of dedicated. So when I say Devoted to Live, I’m saying committed or dedicated to live. To live what you might ask. To live out the message of Jesus Christ; a message of faith, hope, and love. God is calling us to live out love in our lives. As I researched the word devoted in the cool little tool area under research on my computer this is what word came up first LOVING and COMMITTED. Then this statement followed these words, “feeling or showing great love, commitment, or loyalty to somebody or something, especially over a long period of time.” This about these words as you reflect on your relationship with Jesus, devoted is being committed for a long period of time. I want to LIVE a life that is devoted, I don’t just want to breathe and take of space on this earth. I love what Paul said in Titus…

Paul is writing to Titus one of his youngest assistants a Gentile convert who became a close companion of Paul in ministry. Paul is writing this letter to Titus as instruction to complete the task that the two of them started. Paul writes in Titus 3:14 ESV “And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help causes of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.” These are the last words of Paul before closing his letter to Titus. This passage of scripture to me is a passage about living. He says to devote your life to good works, take care of the urgent need, and to be fruitful. Fruit represents life; I believe Paul is telling Titus to let the people know that they need to be Devoted to Life in the Name of Jesus.

I love what Sir William Wallace said in the Movie Braveheart, “Every man dies. Not every man really lives.” This blog is about living, God is calling each and every one of us to the great adventure of living the life. So in these past few days how have you been living the adventure? We can be devoted to a lot of things and they could even been Godly things like Church but God desires our full out commitment to just live and love him because he is God. Tonight with us not having our weekly student service I ask that you would be devoted to God in Prayer and the reading of the Word, take 5 to 10 min to focus on your pure devotion to a loving God. As you begin this journey of being devoted to live I close in the words of a devoted worthy knight Sir James Douglas, “Forward, brave heart, as ever thou were wont to do, and Douglas will follow his king’s heart or die!”
